Artist Statement
Perfect art is boring. Clothes with perfect stitching and seams are boring. If you chase perfection with art, it loses authenticity. As a skateboarder, I've learned this in different ways. From trying a trick 1000 times and still not landing it to destroying shoes on a weekly basis. I've learned to enjoy skating through these things. Constantly wearing one torn-up shoe, and wearing pants with holes on one side. Over time I got used to these small imperfections and made it a part of my style. As I got into fashion, I wanted to focus on this. I wanted to capture the feeling of authenticity skating gives you and just like skating I don't want to learn how to sew a garment perfectly or learn how to draw the straightest line. I want to work through trial and error and appreciate the things I've made for what they are. Each tear, loose strand, and missing them is a mirror of the torn-up skate shoes I've worn my whole life. I grew up surrounded by skating and due to that, I've grown the same mindset for art. Working Independently, showing off flaws, trying the same thing 1000 times, chasing perfection, capturing each moment, and appreciating whatever I'm doing now and how it stands.
